Turf Wars continues the Legend of Korra saga following the Nickelodeon series finale。 We have seen Avatar take the same approach, largely successfully, and this omnibus is no exception。 *** Spoilers ahead for the Legend of Korra Finale***Not only does Turf Wars expand upon the canon, but it does not shy away from the question of Korra and Asami (or KorrAsami as we lovingly refer to the pair)。 In fact, the story is so focused on the question of what Korra and Asami mean to one another as a couple Turf Wars continues the Legend of Korra saga following the Nickelodeon series finale。 We have seen Avatar take the same approach, largely successfully, and this omnibus is no exception。 *** Spoilers ahead for the Legend of Korra Finale***Not only does Turf Wars expand upon the canon, but it does not shy away from the question of Korra and Asami (or KorrAsami as we lovingly refer to the pair)。 In fact, the story is so focused on the question of what Korra and Asami mean to one another as a couple that it might seem excessive at times, but in recognizing that this is a story marketed towards teens the representation could be crucial for some。 Overall the story reads as a short season, each episodic chapter leading to a neat resolution that will leave fans hungry for more Korra。 I know I certainly am and cannot wait to add a hardcover copy to my library collection。 [Thank you to Edelweiss and Dark Horse Comics for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。] 。。。more

First off, I was not the biggest fan of the art style, it felt wonky at times, although I really enjoyed the backgrounds。 The illustrator for the second book did a better job at keeping the feel and style of the show in my opinion。 This picks up right after the end of Book 4, with Korra and Asami leaving for a vacation in the spirit world, and in a way it feels as though it tries to immediately do what the show could not - actually show Korrasami as a couple。 They were very cute and adorable, an First off, I was not the biggest fan of the art style, it felt wonky at times, although I really enjoyed the backgrounds。 The illustrator for the second book did a better job at keeping the feel and style of the show in my opinion。 This picks up right after the end of Book 4, with Korra and Asami leaving for a vacation in the spirit world, and in a way it feels as though it tries to immediately do what the show could not - actually show Korrasami as a couple。 They were very cute and adorable, and it felt more natural and real。 I still wish they had been properly built up throughout the show, and that we got to see more of their correspondence in the 3 years Korra was away, as that is when their feelings for each other grew (at least from Korra's side)。 Maybe the new anthology planned for release in November 2022 will give us a little something more。I'm glad this first post-show publication showed us the consequences of a new spirit portal opening in downtown Republic City, and how people reacted to it。 Now, it feels like Korra took a step back in her conflict solving ways, going back to a more brash approach akin to that of Books 1 and 2, which seems weird when only a few days/weeks have passed since Kuvira's surrender and the resolution of that conflict。 Relationship wise, Korra and Asami communicate a lot better than either had done before with Mako, and seem like a much better fit for each other。 Asami also finally gets to shine and have some solo scenes that develop her as a character in a way that the show did not bother to, she was just the girl with the money that could also drive any vehicle and fix stuff。 The villain or antagonist, however you wish to see Tokuga as, just feels like another bad guy, not someone that will leave a lasting impact on the fate of the world or Korra as a person。 I don't believe this is the last we will see of him, maybe in a future volume (I am not sure if they're planning more after the anthology) he will come back stronger and with more spirit knowledge。 Zhu Li as the new president was a nice surprise, but it is something that made sense with the way the story was flowing。Overall, it feels like the story could have been more thought out and developed, the same that can be said for Korra and Asami's relationship。 But maybe, what the authors wanted was to give a bit more of what they could not on the show, and a lower stakes situation was the easier route。 3。5 rating 。。。more

I loved Korra as a character and this expansion of the Avatar universe。 I especially loved the Queer representation and thanks to the art style and narrative structure I did feel like I was back in another episode of the show。

I enjoyed spending time with the characters again and it definitely captured the style of the show - it was even funny at times。。。 ultimately pretty dull though。 The plot really isn't great and the villain was entirely generic/forgettable。 The art started strong but seemed to dip in quality by the end too。 A regrettable 2。5 stars for one of my most beloved series。 I enjoyed spending time with the characters again and it definitely captured the style of the show - it was even funny at times。。。 ultimately pretty dull though。 The plot really isn't great and the villain was entirely generic/forgettable。 The art started strong but seemed to dip in quality by the end too。 A regrettable 2。5 stars for one of my most beloved series。 。。。more

Turf Wars is the first graphic novel continuing The Legend of Korra。 Taking place immediately after the show ended, Korra and her friends battle against the new leader of the street gang, “triple threat” triad, who is ruthless and has a vision to be the new leader of Republic City。 The main story is pretty basic and easily forgettable。 I found myself enjoying the side plots significantly more。 Such as Korra and Asami figuring out their new relationship and struggling to tell people as they come Turf Wars is the first graphic novel continuing The Legend of Korra。 Taking place immediately after the show ended, Korra and her friends battle against the new leader of the street gang, “triple threat” triad, who is ruthless and has a vision to be the new leader of Republic City。 The main story is pretty basic and easily forgettable。 I found myself enjoying the side plots significantly more。 Such as Korra and Asami figuring out their new relationship and struggling to tell people as they come from a culture where same sex relationships arnt so accepting。 Not bad overall, but I hope the next story in the Korra series will have a more engaging main plot。 。。。more

I enjoyed this continuation of the series。 We start right from where we left off, and we get to see Korra and Asami get together and see their journey together begin。 We also see that the fallout of where the show left off - it's not just all goody goody because the world was saved again。 I do like that the characters are true to the show in their personalities while they interact with new characters。 I like that Zhu-Li stepped up and is getting the credit she deserves for being absolutely fanta I enjoyed this continuation of the series。 We start right from where we left off, and we get to see Korra and Asami get together and see their journey together begin。 We also see that the fallout of where the show left off - it's not just all goody goody because the world was saved again。 I do like that the characters are true to the show in their personalities while they interact with new characters。 I like that Zhu-Li stepped up and is getting the credit she deserves for being absolutely fantastic。Would recommend?Yes。 。。。more

This entire book made my heart so dang happy。 As usual, the art is absolutely gorgeous。 I wish we got more of Tokuga's motivations, because that is one of the most memorable aspects of the TV series。 But I did appreciate having a one-sided bad guy I could just hate without having too many conflicting emotions about it, so there's that。 There will always be a special place in my heart for seeing the mustache-twirling bad guy get the crap kicked out of him by the hero。 Also, all the Korrasami plea This entire book made my heart so dang happy。 As usual, the art is absolutely gorgeous。 I wish we got more of Tokuga's motivations, because that is one of the most memorable aspects of the TV series。 But I did appreciate having a one-sided bad guy I could just hate without having too many conflicting emotions about it, so there's that。 There will always be a special place in my heart for seeing the mustache-twirling bad guy get the crap kicked out of him by the hero。 Also, all the Korrasami please。 All of it。 I love them so much。 Happy Pride ❤️ 。。。more

Korrasami forever!!! 💜💜💜 I love the Legend of Korra, and I’m so happy I picked up Turf Wars during Pride Month to celebrate our two bisexual baddies Korra and Asami! The comic picks up right where the show left off, and it was a good time reading this one (but boo on Bolin for being a cop… sigh…)

The plot of this book was good and enjoyable, and felt cohesive with everything that happened in the TV show。 I enjoyed it, but I really think the main reason I gave it such a high rating is because of the emphasis on Korra and Asami's relationship。 And I don't mean by that that I just read the book from a fangirl perspective, though it was very nice to see the girls finally get together。 No, what I liked was not just the relationship development, but the exploration of the implications。 I thoug The plot of this book was good and enjoyable, and felt cohesive with everything that happened in the TV show。 I enjoyed it, but I really think the main reason I gave it such a high rating is because of the emphasis on Korra and Asami's relationship。 And I don't mean by that that I just read the book from a fangirl perspective, though it was very nice to see the girls finally get together。 No, what I liked was not just the relationship development, but the exploration of the implications。 I thought that the topic was handled really, really well, and it made me smile to see how everything turned out。 But that's just me。 。。。more

Honestly, just this being the canonification of Korrasami would make it a worthy reading for me。。。 but the first comic continuation of TLOK is on par with the animated series。 The art is fantastic, and the plot, even though it reads maybe a tad more rushed than the series, is as good (if not better) as the one we saw in the last season。 True, it might not be as great as the best episodes of the series, and Tokuga is not my favourite antagonist, but everything here will be delightful for fans。 An Honestly, just this being the canonification of Korrasami would make it a worthy reading for me。。。 but the first comic continuation of TLOK is on par with the animated series。 The art is fantastic, and the plot, even though it reads maybe a tad more rushed than the series, is as good (if not better) as the one we saw in the last season。 True, it might not be as great as the best episodes of the series, and Tokuga is not my favourite antagonist, but everything here will be delightful for fans。 And having the creators develop the characters the way they wanted to do it (but couldn't with Nickelodeon) is a treat。 Absolutely recommended。 。。。more

Ah-mazing。It is a very nice continuation of the series (which is level GOD)。 The graphic novel organically follows its predecessor, it keeps a good presentation of the characters' personalities, good humour, the graphics and designs are well done, the relationship between the women is portrayed respectfully and shows common fears and desires of queer people (yes, I'm here for Korrasami too) or anyone who's fallen in love and is making themselves vulnerable to another person for that matter。It st Ah-mazing。It is a very nice continuation of the series (which is level GOD)。 The graphic novel organically follows its predecessor, it keeps a good presentation of the characters' personalities, good humour, the graphics and designs are well done, the relationship between the women is portrayed respectfully and shows common fears and desires of queer people (yes, I'm here for Korrasami too) or anyone who's fallen in love and is making themselves vulnerable to another person for that matter。It started to bother me the whole (view spoiler)[damsel in distress BS I thought they'd do with Asami's kidnapping, but no。。。 Luckily she was presented as the strong woman she is: If she's to go down, she'll go down in her own terms (hide spoiler)]。 。。。more
